Byetta 5 Mcg Pen Side Effects
When starting exenatide, you might experience mild side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, nervousness, or an upset stomach. These symptoms often improve over time. You may also notice a decreased appetite or weight loss. These side effects are typically not serious, but if they persist or worsen, it's important to inform your healthcare provider.
While exenatide alone usually doesn't cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), it can occur when combined with other diabetes medications. Symptoms of low blood sugar include sudden sweating, shaking, fast heartbeat, hunger, blurred vision, dizziness, headache, or tingling in the hands or feet. It's advisable to have glucose tablets or gels on hand to manage these symptoms.
High blood sugar (hyperglycemia) might present as increased thirst and urination. If this happens, contact your healthcare provider as adjustments to your medication, diet, or exercise routine may be necessary. Be alert for serious side effects like signs of kidney problems, such as changes in urine output, or easy bruising and bleeding.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe side effects such as persistent nausea, vomiting, severe stomach or abdominal pain, which may indicate pancreas or gallbladder disease. Although rare, serious allergic reactions can occur, characterized by rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing. If you encounter any of these, seek medical help promptly. Always communicate with your healthcare provider if you notice any side effects not listed here.
