Trospium is a medication primarily used to manage symptoms of an overactive bladder in adults. It works by relaxing the bladder muscles, which enhances your ability to control urination. This action helps decrease urine leakage, the urgent need to urinate, and frequent bathroom visits. Trospium is part of the antimuscarinic class of drugs, often referred to as anticholinergics due to their similar functions. The medication is available in two forms: an immediate-release tablet, taken twice daily, and an extended-release capsule, taken once daily. Common side effects include dry mouth and constipation. Although the brand name Sanctura is no longer on the market, generic versions of trospium remain accessible.
