Cabtreo Warnings
This document provides key safety warnings and usage instructions for Cabtreo, ensuring you are informed about its potential risks and necessary precautions. Review these points carefully and discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider.
Serious Gastrointestinal Issues: Some individuals have experienced colitis, an inflammation of the colon, while using Cabtreo, which contains clindamycin. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, or bloody stools. The risk of severe, potentially life-threatening colitis increases with prolonged use of Cabtreo or concurrent use of opioid medications such as Percocet or tramadol, and Lomotil. This condition can develop even weeks after discontinuing Cabtreo. If you experience any form of diarrhea, immediately stop using the medication and seek urgent medical attention.
Sun Sensitivity: Cabtreo may increase skin sensitivity to sunlight and artificial UV light, such as tanning beds, raising the risk of sunburn and skin cancer. It is advisable to limit sun exposure. When outdoors, wear protective clothing, including a hat, and apply sunscreen regularly to safeguard against sunburn and future skin cancer risks.
Skin Irritation: The use of Cabtreo may lead to skin irritation, presenting as pain, redness, dryness, or peeling at the application site. This is more common during the initial month of treatment but generally improves over time. The likelihood of irritation is heightened when using other irritating topical products or in extremely cold or windy weather.
For contraindications, Cabtreo should not be used if you have:
- Allergies to any of its ingredients, including clindamycin, adapalene, or benzoyl peroxide.
- A history of small intestine or colon inflammation, such as enteritis, ulcerative colitis, or antibiotic-associated colitis.
Consult your healthcare provider if any of these conditions apply to ensure safe use of Cabtreo.
Cabtreo Side Effects
When using this medication, some common side effects may occur, particularly in the early weeks. These include skin redness, dryness, peeling, mild burning or stinging, and potentially a worsening of acne. These effects are generally mild and often improve with continued use. Should they persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult with your healthcare provider. In some instances, they may recommend using a moisturizer, altering the frequency of application, or discontinuing use.
Additionally, there is a small chance that this medication could lead to more severe side effects. Very rarely, it can be absorbed into the bloodstream and cause a serious intestinal condition related to the bacteria C. difficile. This condition can emerge during or even weeks to months after treatment. Symptoms to watch for include persistent diarrhea, abdominal pain or cramping, and blood or mucus in the stool. If you experience these, seek medical attention promptly and avoid using anti-diarrhea or opioid products, as they might worsen the symptoms.
Allergic reactions, though rare, are serious and require immediate medical assistance. Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction include rash, significant itching or swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, and trouble breathing. If any unusual side effects occur that are not listed here, it's important to contact your healthcare provider for further guidance.
