This medication is used to treat a variety of skin conditions (such as eczema, dermatitis, allergies, rash). Fluocinonide is a strong corticosteroid. It reduces the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in these types of conditions. The fluocinonide is in a water-washable emollient base. Emollients soften and moisturize the skin, leading to decreased itching and flaking. Emollients also help to protect the skin against irritation.

Burning, itching, irritation, or dryness may occur when this medication is first applied to the skin. Acne, unusual hair growth, or small red bumps on the skin (folliculitis) may also occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: stretch marks, skin thinning/discoloration. Skin infections can become worse when this medication is used. Tell your doctor promptly if redness, swelling, or irritation does not improve.
