Histex-dm Side Effects
You may experience common side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, headache, blurred vision, upset stomach, nausea, constipation, or dryness in your mouth, nose, or throat. These are generally mild and manageable. If they persist or worsen, consider consulting your pharmacist or healthcare provider. To alleviate dry mouth, try sugarless candy or gum, ice chips, or a saliva substitute, and stay hydrated unless advised otherwise.
This medication may thicken mucus in your lungs, making breathing and clearing your lungs more difficult. To help prevent this, it is recommended to drink plenty of fluids. To minimize dizziness or lightheadedness, rise slowly from sitting or lying positions. Most individuals taking this medication do not experience severe side effects.
However, be vigilant for serious side effects such as mental or mood changes, ringing in the ears, tremors, difficulty urinating, weakness, easy bruising or bleeding, irregular heartbeat, or seizures. Seek immediate medical attention if these occur. Although rare, severe allergic reactions can happen, characterized by rash, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. Immediate medical intervention is essential in such cases.
This overview does not include all potential side effects. If you notice any unusual symptoms, reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance.
Interactions
Avoid combining this medication with specific MAO inhibitors, as it could lead to a severe and potentially fatal interaction. Do not take isocarboxazid, Metaxalone, methylene blue, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, Rasagiline, safinamide, Selegiline, or Tranylcypromine while using this medication. Most MAO inhibitors should also not be used for two weeks before and after your treatment. Consult your doctor about when to begin or discontinue this medication.
Some other products that may interact with this drug include topical antihistamines (like diphenhydramine cream, ointment, or spray) and rolapitant. Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are using other products that can cause drowsiness, such as opioid pain or cough relievers (e.g., codeine, hydrocodone), alcohol, marijuana (cannabis), medications for sleep or anxiety (like Alprazolam, Lorazepam, Zolpidem), muscle relaxants (such as Carisoprodol, Cyclobenzaprine), or other antihistamines (such as Cetirizine, diphenhydramine).
Always check the labels on all your medications (including allergy or cold-and-cough products) since they might contain ingredients that cause drowsiness. Consult your pharmacist on how to use these products safely.
This medication could interfere with certain medical or laboratory tests (such as brain scans for Parkinson's disease, urine drug screening tests, allergy skin tests), potentially leading to inaccurate results. Ensure that all lab personnel and your healthcare providers are aware that you are taking this medication.
Can you give Histex and Benadryl together?
It is generally not recommended to give Histex and Benadryl together without consulting a healthcare professional. Both medications are antihistamines and taking them together may increase the risk of side effects such as drowsiness, dry mouth, and dizziness. It is important to consult with a healthcare provider to determine the appropriate treatment and avoid potential interactions.
Does Histex make you sleepy?
Yes, Histex can cause drowsiness as a side effect. It is important to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until one knows how the medication affects them. If drowsiness becomes bothersome, consulting a healthcare provider is recommended.
Does Histex dry up mucus?
Histex is an antihistamine that can help reduce symptoms associated with allergies, such as runny nose and sneezing. However, it is not specifically designed to dry up mucus. For drying up mucus, a decongestant might be more effective. It is advisable to consult with a healthcare provider for appropriate treatment options.
