Limbrel 250 was a prescription medical food designed to manage the metabolic processes associated with osteoarthritis. Each capsule contained 250 mg of flavocoxid—a proprietary blend of flavonoids derived from Scutellaria baicalensis and Acacia catechu—and 50 mg of citrated zinc bisglycinate, providing 10 mg of elemental zinc. Flavocoxid aimed to restore the balance of inflammatory metabolites at the cellular level through dual inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) enzymes, along with antioxidant action. However, in December 2017, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requested a recall of Limbrel products due to reports of serious adverse events, including drug-induced liver injury and hypersensitivity pneumonitis. Consequently, Limbrel 250 was withdrawn from the market in January 2018.
