Quflora Pediatric Warnings
This document outlines essential safety and warning information regarding the use of this medication, particularly focusing on potential risks, necessary precautions, and emergency procedures. Please review the details below and consult your healthcare provider with any questions or concerns.
Excessive Fluoride Intake: Consuming too much fluoride can lead to a condition known as fluorosis, which may alter your child's dental health. Ingesting large amounts of fluoride can also cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. If these symptoms occur while your child is taking a multivitamin with fluoride, immediately contact their healthcare provider or a Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.
Iron Overdose: An overdose of iron, whether through multiple supplements or excessive doses, poses significant risks including intestinal tears, seizures, and liver damage. Healthcare providers may monitor your child's iron levels with blood tests if they are taking a multivitamin with fluoride that contains iron. Notify the provider immediately if symptoms like nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or diarrhea appear. Risks are higher for children under 6, those receiving multiple blood transfusions, or individuals with medical conditions that elevate iron levels.
Contraindications: This medication should not be used under certain conditions, as it may lead to serious health issues:
- Children under the age of 6 months.
- Individuals residing in areas where the drinking water already contains sufficient fluoride.
Adhering to these guidelines ensures the safe and effective use of the medication. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting or adjusting any medication regimen.
Quflora Pediatric Side Effects
When taking this medication, you may experience some common side effects such as stomach upset, constipation, or nausea. These are usually mild and not a cause for concern, but if they persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional. In some cases, teeth may become mottled or stained, which could indicate excessive fluoride intake; if this occurs, inform your dentist or doctor.
Although serious side effects are rare, it's important to be aware of them. A very serious allergic reaction can manifest as a rash, itching, swelling (particularly of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing. Should you notice any of these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.
Additionally, if the medication contains iron and is taken by children, there is a risk of iron overdose. This could lead to severe symptoms such as stomach pain, seizures, liver problems, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dark-colored stools, a rapid heart rate, high blood sugar, sleepiness, brain damage, or even coma. Prompt medical intervention is crucial if such symptoms appear.
It is worth noting that many individuals do not experience significant side effects with this medication. However, if you notice any unusual effects, it is important to contact your healthcare provider for further guidance.
