Raldesy Warnings

Antidepressants are commonly prescribed for depression and various mental health conditions. While they offer significant benefits, such as reducing suicidal thoughts, there are potential risks, particularly for individuals under 25. Some may experience increased depression, mood changes, or suicidal tendencies. It is crucial to discuss the advantages and risks of antidepressant use with a healthcare provider, especially for younger patients or those not being treated for a mental health condition.

  • Notify your doctor immediately if you observe any worsening depression, unusual changes in behavior, or new mental health symptoms, including:

    • Suicidal thoughts or attempts.
    • Increased anxiety or panic attacks.
    • Difficulty sleeping, irritability, or anger.
    • Impulsive actions or severe restlessness.
    • Rapid speech.
  • Pay close attention to these symptoms when initiating a new antidepressant or adjusting the dosage. Maintaining open communication with a healthcare professional is essential for safe and effective treatment.

Raldesy Side Effects

When taking this medication, you might experience mild side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness, blurred vision, changes in weight, headache, muscle ache, dry mouth, a bad taste in your mouth, stuffy nose, constipation, or changes in sexual interest or ability. These effects are usually not serious and often improve over time. To alleviate dry mouth, consider using sugarless candy, ice chips, chewing gum, drinking water, or a saliva substitute. To prevent dizziness and lightheadedness, rise slowly from sitting or lying down.

However, there are more serious side effects that require immediate medical attention. If you notice shaking, nightmares, ringing in the ears, problems urinating, blood in the urine, persistent sore throat, fever, shortness of breath, or stomach pain, contact your healthcare provider promptly. In rare cases, very serious effects like chest pain, fainting, irregular heartbeat, seizures, eye pain, pupil changes, or vision disturbances may occur. These symptoms necessitate urgent medical care.

A condition known as serotonin syndrome, which can be life-threatening, might develop, especially if combined with other serotonin-enhancing drugs. Seek immediate help if you experience fast heartbeat, hallucinations, coordination loss, severe nausea, muscle twitching, unexplained fever, or agitation. Men should be aware of the rare risk of a painful and prolonged erection lasting more than four hours, which requires urgent medical intervention to prevent permanent damage.

Although a severe allergic reaction is uncommon, symptoms such as rash, swelling (particularly of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or breathing difficulties warrant immediate medical attention. This summary does not cover all possible side effects. If you experience any unusual symptoms, consult your healthcare provider.

Raldesy Interactions

Certain medications can interact with this drug. For instance, taking digoxin alongside it may lead to interactions. Additionally, using this medication with MAO inhibitors can result in a severe and potentially fatal reaction. It is crucial to avoid MAO inhibitors such as isocarboxazid, linezolid, metaxalone, methylene blue, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, safinamide, selegiline, and tranylcypromine during your treatment. Furthermore, most MAO inhibitors should not be used two weeks before and after you finish treatment with this drug. Consult your doctor for advice on when to start or stop these medications.

Other drugs can influence how your body processes trazodone, affecting its effectiveness. These include azole antifungals like itraconazole and ketoconazole, macrolide antibiotics such as erythromycin, ritonavir, and seizure medications like phenytoin.

There is an increased risk of serotonin syndrome if you are taking other medications that raise serotonin levels. This includes certain antidepressants, like SSRIs (e.g., fluoxetine, paroxetine) and SNRIs (e.g., duloxetine, venlafaxine), as well as recreational drugs like MDMA and herbal supplements such as St. John's wort. The risk is higher when starting or increasing the dosage of these drugs.

Inform your healthcare provider if you use other products that may cause drowsiness, such as alcohol, marijuana, antihistamines (like cetirizine and diphenhydramine), sleep or anxiety medications (such as alprazolam, diazepam, zolpidem), muscle relaxants, and opioid pain medications like codeine. Always read the labels on all your medications, including those for allergies or cold symptoms, as they may contain drowsiness-inducing ingredients. Your pharmacist can provide guidance on how to use these products safely.
