• Cardiovascular Risks: In rare instances, individuals may experience serious heart issues, including heart attacks, chest pain, or arrhythmias shortly after taking triptans like almotriptan. This can occur in individuals with or without pre-existing heart conditions. Factors increasing risk include a family history of coronary artery disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, menopause, and being male over 40 years old.

• Stroke and Brain Injury: Some users of almotriptan have experienced life-threatening strokes or brain hemorrhages. Do not take almotriptan if you have a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA).

• Blood Vessel Constriction: Almotriptan can cause severe narrowing of blood vessels, potentially reducing blood flow to certain body parts and causing complications.

• Serotonin Syndrome: There is a risk of serotonin syndrome, a life-threatening condition resulting from high serotonin levels in the brain, especially when combined with other medications that increase serotonin, like certain antidepressants.

• Rebound Headaches: Overuse of almotriptan or exceeding the recommended dosage can result in medication-overuse headaches, leading to more frequent or severe migraines.

• Blood Pressure Concerns: Almotriptan may cause an increase in blood pressure, even in those without a history of hypertension. Avoid usage if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure.

• Severe Allergic Reactions: There is a potential for life-threatening allergic reactions, such as anaphylaxis. Those with a sulfa allergy should be particularly cautious.
