Depo-estradiol Coupons & Discount Card - Compare Prices Near You

This medication is a hormone (estrogen). It is used by women to help reduce symptoms of menopause (such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness). These symptoms are caused by the body making less estrogen. If you are using this medication to treat symptoms only in and around the vagina, products applied directly inside the vagina should be considered before medications that are taken by mouth, absorbed through the skin, or injected. This medication may also be used by women who are not able to produce enough estrogen (for example, due to hypogonadism, primary ovarian failure).

Warnings

When considering the use of estrogen, whether alone or combined with another hormone like progestin, it is important to be aware of the potential for rare but severe side effects. It is essential to discuss the potential risks and benefits of hormone therapy with your healthcare provider. Estrogens should not be used for the prevention of heart disease or dementia.

Key Safety Information:

  • Estrogens may increase the risk of developing uterine cancer (endometrial cancer). Following your doctor’s instructions regarding progestin use can help reduce this risk. Report any unusual vaginal bleeding to your doctor immediately.
  • For postmenopausal women, estrogen use, with or without progestin, can elevate the risk of breast and ovarian cancers, strokes, dementia, and serious blood clots. When used with progestin, there is also an increased risk of heart disease, such as heart attacks.
  • The likelihood of adverse effects may vary based on the estrogen dose and duration of use. It is recommended to use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time possible.
  • Regular consultation with your doctor is advised, approximately every 3 to 6 months, to determine ongoing necessity for this medication.
  • If long-term use is necessary, ensure to have comprehensive physical examinations as directed by your healthcare provider, typically on an annual basis.

By adhering to these guidelines and maintaining open communication with your doctor, you can better manage the risks associated with estrogen therapy.

Depo-estradiol Side Effects

While using this medication, you might experience mild side effects such as nausea, vomiting, bloating, breast tenderness, headaches, or changes in weight. These are generally manageable, but if they persist or worsen, it's important to consult your healthcare provider.

In some cases, more serious side effects can occur. Be attentive to symptoms such as persistent nausea or vomiting, mood changes like depression or memory loss, breast lumps, unusual vaginal bleeding, increased vaginal irritation or discharge, severe abdominal pain, yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet, and increased thirst or urination. These should be reported to your healthcare provider immediately.

This medication may very rarely lead to serious problems related to blood clots, which can be life-threatening. Watch for signs such as chest pain, unusual sweating, sudden severe headaches, weakness on one side of the body, confusion, difficulty speaking, sudden vision changes, pain or swelling in the groin or calf, shortness of breath, or sudden dizziness. Seek emergency medical attention if these occur.

Although rare, severe allergic reactions can happen. If you notice symptoms such as rash, swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing, immediate medical help is necessary.

This overview does not cover all possible side effects. If you encounter any other unusual symptoms, contact your healthcare provider for advice.
