diphenoxylate-atropine

This medication is used to treat diarrhea. It helps to decrease the number and frequency of bowel movements. It works by slowing the movement of the intestines. Diphenoxylate is similar to opioid pain relievers, but it acts mainly to slow the gut. Atropine belongs to a class of drugs known as anticholinergics, which help to dry up body fluids and also slow gut movement. This medication should not be used to treat diarrhea caused by certain types of infection (such as C. difficile-associated diarrhea following antibiotic therapy). Talk to your doctor for more details. This medication is not recommended for use in children younger than 6 years due to an increased risk of serious side effects (such as breathing problems).

Lomotil Side Effects

You might experience mild side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, headache, tiredness, blurred vision, dry mouth, or a decreased appetite. These are common and often temporary, but if they persist or worsen, it's important to inform your healthcare provider.

While most individuals using this medication do not encounter serious side effects, be vigilant for any severe symptoms. These include stomach or abdominal pain, swelling, severe nausea, vomiting, or mood changes like confusion, depression, or restlessness. Additionally, numbness or tingling in your arms or legs should be promptly reported to your healthcare provider.

In rare cases, very serious side effects may occur. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience eye pain, swelling, redness, or vision changes, especially seeing rainbows around lights at night.

Although a severe allergic reaction is uncommon, it requires urgent medical care. Watch for signs such as a rash, itching, swelling (particularly of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing. Remember, this list does not include all possible side effects. If you notice any unusual symptoms, contact your healthcare provider for advice.

Be sure to check the labels on all your medications, including those for allergies or colds, as they might contain ingredients that cause drowsiness. Consult your pharmacist to ensure you're using these products safely.
