chorionic gonadotropin

This medication is a hormone used in boys (before puberty) to cause the normal dropping of the testicles into the scrotum. It is also used in certain boys to help with normal sexual development. It works by causing the testes to release male sex hormones (such as testosterone). This medication is also used in women to treat fertility problems. It is given after finishing another medication (menotropins) to cause the release of an egg (ovulation). It should not be used in women whose ovaries no longer make eggs properly (primary ovarian failure). This medication has not been shown to be effective for weight loss and should not be used for this purpose due to risk of serious side effects.

Pregnyl Side Effects

You may experience mild side effects such as headache, restlessness, tiredness, or pain at the injection site. These are generally manageable, but if they persist or worsen, it's important to consult with your healthcare provider. Most individuals do not encounter serious side effects with this medication.

However, notify your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects, including swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet, mood changes like depression or irritability, early puberty signs in boys such as facial or pubic hair, voice changes, acne, pain or swelling of the breast in boys, or unusual vaginal bleeding in women.

A condition called ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) may occur during or after treatment. In rare instances, OHSS can lead to a serious accumulation of fluid in the stomach, chest, and heart area. Seek urgent medical attention if you experience severe pelvic pain or swelling, severe nausea or vomiting, rapid weight gain, or reduced urination.

Additionally, immediate medical help is necessary if you have very serious side effects, such as chest, jaw, or left arm pain, sudden severe headache, confusion, weakness on one side of the body, difficulty speaking, sudden vision changes, or pain, redness, and swelling in the legs. Severe allergic reactions are rare but require urgent care if symptoms like rash, itching, swelling especially of the face, tongue, or throat, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing occur.

This is not an exhaustive list of side effects. If you observe any other unusual symptoms, contact your healthcare provider for guidance.

Interactions

One medication that can interact with this drug is gonadorelin. This drug may affect the results of specific laboratory tests, such as those measuring luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) levels, potentially leading to inaccurate results. It is important to inform all medical staff and your doctors that you are taking this medication.
Pregnyl FAQs
Why do bodybuilders take hCG?

Bodybuilders may take hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) to help maintain or restore natural testosterone production, especially after using anabolic steroids. Anabolic steroids can suppress the body's natural testosterone production, and hCG is sometimes used to stimulate the testes to produce testosterone, potentially aiding in the recovery of normal hormonal balance. However, it's important to note that the use of hCG for this purpose is not without risks and should be done under medical supervision.

The hCG trigger and Pregnyl both refer to the use of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in fertility treatments. The primary difference is that "hCG trigger" is a general term used to describe the administration of hCG to induce ovulation, while Pregnyl is a specific brand name of hCG. Both are used to trigger the final maturation and release of eggs from the ovaries in assisted reproductive technologies.

Pregnyl and Ovidrel are not the same, although they are both used in fertility treatments. Pregnyl contains human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) derived from the urine of pregnant women, while Ovidrel contains recombinant hCG, which is synthetically produced. Both medications are used to trigger ovulation, but they differ in their formulation and source.

Men may take Pregnyl, which contains human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), for several reasons. It is often used to stimulate testosterone production in cases of hypogonadism, where the body does not produce enough testosterone. Additionally, Pregnyl can be used to treat certain types of infertility in men by stimulating the testes to produce sperm. It is important for individuals to follow their healthcare provider's instructions when using this medication.

As of the latest available information, there is no indication that Pregnyl is being discontinued. However, availability can vary by region and over time, so it is advisable to check with local pharmacies or healthcare providers for the most current information regarding its availability.
