This medication is used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease (such as shakiness, stiffness, difficulty moving) or Parkinson-like conditions. Parkinson's disease is thought to be caused by too little of a naturally occurring substance (dopamine) in the brain. Levodopa changes into dopamine in the brain, helping to control movement. Carbidopa prevents the breakdown of levodopa in the bloodstream so more levodopa can enter the brain. Carbidopa can also reduce some of levodopa's side effects such as nausea and vomiting.

Crexont Side Effects

You may experience dizziness, nausea, vomiting, trouble sleeping, unusual dreams, or headaches. These are common side effects and usually mild, but if they persist or worsen, consult a healthcare professional. To help prevent dizziness and lightheadedness, rise slowly from sitting or lying positions. This medication could also cause your urine, sweat, or saliva to change color to red, brown, or black. This is harmless, but be cautious as it may stain clothing.

A less common side effect is falling asleep suddenly during the day, even while engaging in activities like talking or driving, sometimes without feeling drowsy beforehand. If this happens, avoid driving or engaging in potentially dangerous tasks and discuss it with your healthcare provider. The risk of this side effect increases with alcohol consumption or use of other sedatives.

Serious side effects require immediate medical attention. These include mental or mood changes, unusual urges, uncontrollable movements, excessive eye blinking, easy bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat, fever, unusual fatigue, tingling in hands or feet, vision changes, eye pain, severe stomach pain, vomit resembling coffee grounds, black stools, or urination issues. Extremely serious effects like chest pain or fainting also need urgent care.

Abruptly stopping or significantly reducing the dose can rarely lead to neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), marked by fever, muscle stiffness, severe confusion, sweating, and rapid heartbeat, all requiring immediate medical intervention. Though rare, severe allergic reactions may occur, characterized by rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing, and require urgent medical assistance. If you notice any other unusual effects, reach out to a healthcare provider.
