calcium carb-cholecalciferol

This medication is a combination product used to prevent or treat low blood calcium levels in individuals who do not obtain adequate calcium through their diet. It is particularly useful in managing conditions arising from low calcium levels, such as osteoporosis (bone loss), osteomalacia/rickets (weak bones), hypoparathyroidism (reduced activity of the parathyroid gland), and latent tetany (a specific muscle disorder). Additionally, it ensures adequate calcium intake in certain individuals, including pregnant, nursing, or postmenopausal women, and those on medications like phenytoin, phenobarbital, or prednisone. Calcium is essential for the proper functioning of nerves, cells, muscles, and bones. Insufficient blood calcium prompts the body to extract calcium from bones, leading to bone weakening. Vitamin D plays a vital role in aiding the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, which are crucial for maintaining strong bones. Ensuring an appropriate balance of vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorus is key to building and sustaining strong bones.

Calcium+d3 Interactions

Some products that may interact with this drug include: digoxin, phosphate binders. Calcium can decrease the absorption of other drugs such as tetracycline antibiotics (for example, doxycycline, minocycline), bisphosphonates (such as alendronate), estramustine, levothyroxine, and quinolone antibiotics (such as ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin). Also, certain medications can decrease the absorption of vitamin D (bile acid sequestrants such as cholestyramine/colestipol, mineral oil, orlistat). Separate your doses of these medications as far as possible from your doses of calcium/vitamin D. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about how long you should wait between doses and for help finding a dosing schedule that will work with all your medications. Check the labels on all your prescription and nonprescription/herbal products (such as antacids, laxatives, vitamins) because they may contain calcium, phosphate, or vitamin D. Ask your pharmacist about using those products safely. Vitamin D is very similar to calcitriol. Do not use medications containing calcitriol while using vitamin D. This product may interfere with certain lab tests (such as cholesterol tests), possibly causing false test results. Make sure lab personnel and all your doctors know you use this product.
Calcium+d3 FAQs
What is calcium D3 used for?

Calcium D3 is used to support bone health by providing essential nutrients that help maintain bone density and strength. It is often used to prevent or treat conditions like osteoporosis and to ensure adequate calcium and vitamin D levels in the body.

Yes, calcium D3 is beneficial for bones. Calcium is essential for maintaining bone strength and structure, while vitamin D3 helps the body absorb calcium more effectively. Together, they support bone health and can help prevent conditions like osteoporosis.

Calcium D3, a combination of calcium and vitamin D3, offers several benefits. It supports bone health by aiding in the development and maintenance of strong bones and teeth. Vitamin D3 enhances calcium absorption in the gut, which is crucial for maintaining adequate calcium levels in the blood. This combination can help prevent conditions like osteoporosis and may reduce the risk of fractures. Additionally, it supports muscle function and may contribute to overall cardiovascular health.

A negative side effect of vitamin D3 can include hypercalcemia, which is an elevated level of calcium in the blood. This condition can lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, weakness, and frequent urination. In severe cases, it may cause kidney problems or calcium deposits in the heart and lungs. It is important to take vitamin D3 supplements as directed by a healthcare provider to avoid these adverse effects.
