Fluphenazine Hcl Side Effects

Taking this medication may lead to common side effects such as drowsiness, lethargy, dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, loss of appetite, sweating, dry mouth, blurred vision, headache, and constipation. These effects are usually mild, but if they persist or worsen, please inform your healthcare provider. To prevent falls, rise slowly from sitting or lying positions due to the dizziness and lightheadedness.

Some side effects require immediate attention, including muscle spasms, stiffness, tremors, restlessness, a mask-like facial expression, drooling, difficulty swallowing, or a shuffling walk. Your healthcare provider might adjust your treatment to manage these issues. Serious side effects could include mood changes, unusual dreams, urination problems, vision issues, weight changes, swelling of the feet or ankles, fainting, skin discoloration, a butterfly-shaped facial rash, joint pain, or seizures.

Rare hormonal changes may cause unwanted breast milk production, menstrual irregularities, or fertility issues in females, and reduced sexual function or breast enlargement in males. A rare but serious condition known as tardive dyskinesia may occur, characterized by uncontrolled movements. Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is another severe condition with symptoms like fever, muscle pain, extreme fatigue, and fast heartbeat. Immediate medical help is required for these serious conditions.

Rare blood or liver problems may manifest as persistent sore throat, fever, bruising, abdominal pain, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. Severe allergic reactions are rare but require urgent medical attention if symptoms like rash, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing occur. Always consult your healthcare provider if you experience any side effects not mentioned here.
