norethin-eth estradiol-fe

This combination hormone medication is used to prevent pregnancy. It contains 2 hormones: norethindrone (a progestin) and ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen). There is a small amount of iron (ferrous fumarate) in each of the 4 inactive pills taken during the fourth week. The inactive pills do not contain any hormones. These pills are meant to keep you in the habit of taking 1 pill each day and do not have enough iron to treat iron deficiency. Besides preventing pregnancy, birth control pills may make your periods more regular, decrease blood loss and painful periods, decrease your risk of ovarian cysts, and also treat acne. Using this medication does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia).

Warnings

It is important to be aware of the following safety information when using this medication:

  • Avoid using this medication if you are over 35 years old and smoke cigarettes or use tobacco products. Smoking can significantly increase the risk of severe health issues such as stroke, heart attack, blood clots, and elevated blood pressure when using hormonal birth control methods like pills, patches, or rings. The likelihood of these conditions rises with age and the quantity of cigarettes smoked. It is advised to refrain from smoking or using tobacco.

  • This product contains iron, and accidental ingestion by children under the age of six can lead to fatal poisoning. Ensure that the product is stored securely out of children's reach. In the event of an overdose, seek immediate medical assistance or contact a poison control center without delay.

Adhering to these precautions is crucial for your safety and the safety of those around you.

Kaitlib Fe Side Effects

You might experience nausea, vomiting, headache, bloating, breast tenderness, ankle/foot swelling, or changes in weight. Some people may notice vaginal bleeding between periods or irregular/missed periods, particularly in the initial months. These are common side effects and are generally mild, but if they persist or worsen, consult your healthcare provider.

In rare cases, the medication could increase blood pressure, so it's important to monitor it regularly. Notify your healthcare provider if you detect any significant changes. Serious side effects, though uncommon, require immediate attention. These include breast lumps, mood changes like depression, severe abdominal pain, unusual changes in menstrual bleeding, dark urine, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Very rarely, this medication may lead to severe blood clot issues such as heart attacks or strokes. Seek urgent medical help if you experience chest pain, confusion, sudden dizziness, swelling or pain in the limbs, difficulty speaking, breathing issues, severe headaches, sweating, weakness on one side, or sudden vision changes.

Allergic reactions to this drug are extremely rare but serious. If you notice a rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing, seek medical help immediately. Always discuss any side effects you experience with your healthcare provider.

Interactions

Some products that can interact with this medication include: aromatase inhibitors like anastrozole and exemestane, fezolinetant, ospemifene, tamoxifen, tizanidine, tranexamic acid, and certain combination drugs used for chronic hepatitis C, such as ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir, with or without dasabuvir. Additionally, some medications might reduce the effectiveness of hormonal birth control by lowering the hormone levels in your body, which can lead to pregnancy. These include griseofulvin, modafinil, rifamycins like rifampin and rifabutin, ritonavir, St. John's wort, seizure medications such as barbiturates, carbamazepine, felbamate, phenytoin, primidone, topiramate, and certain HIV drugs like nelfinavir and nevirapine. It's important to inform your doctor whenever you start a new medication and to discuss the use of reliable backup birth control. Also, notify your doctor if you experience spotting or breakthrough bleeding, as these could indicate your birth control is not working effectively. This medication might also affect certain lab tests, such as those for blood clotting factors and thyroid function, resulting in incorrect results. Ensure that all healthcare providers and lab personnel are aware that you are taking this medication.
