Simpesse Side Effects
You may experience some mild side effects such as nausea, vomiting, headache, bloating, breast tenderness, swelling of the ankles or feet due to fluid retention, or changes in weight. It's common to have spotting or light bleeding between periods, especially during the first few months of taking this medication. Typically, you will only have a period once every three months while on the estrogen-only pills, which is expected. However, if your period doesn't occur during this time, consult your doctor.
This medication might increase your blood pressure, so it's advisable to monitor it regularly and inform your healthcare provider if you notice high readings. Serious side effects are uncommon, but it's important to be aware of them. Seek immediate medical attention if you detect lumps in the breast, significant mood changes like worsening depression, severe stomach or abdominal pain, or unusual vaginal bleeding patterns.
Rarely, this medication can cause severe blood clot-related issues, such as heart attacks, strokes, or clots in the lungs or legs. Urgent medical help is necessary if you experience chest pain, confusion, sudden dizziness or fainting, pain or warmth in the groin or calf, difficulty speaking, shortness of breath, severe headaches, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of your body, or sudden vision changes. Although rare, serious allergic reactions can occur. Seek emergency care if you notice symptoms like a rash, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
This overview does not cover all possible side effects. If you observe any other symptoms, contact your healthcare provider for advice.
Interactions
Certain medications can interact with this drug, including aromatase inhibitors like anastrozole and exemestane, fezolinetant, ospemifene, tamoxifen, tizanidine, tranexamic acid, and some combination treatments for chronic hepatitis C, such as ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir with or without dasabuvir.
Some drugs may reduce the effectiveness of hormonal birth control by lowering hormone levels in the body, potentially leading to pregnancy. These include griseofulvin, modafinil, rifamycins like rifampin and rifabutin, ritonavir, St. John's wort, certain seizure medications (such as barbiturates, carbamazepine, felbamate, phenytoin, primidone, topiramate), and some HIV medications like nelfinavir and nevirapine.
It is essential to inform your doctor whenever you begin taking a new medication and discuss the need for additional reliable birth control methods. Report any new spotting or breakthrough bleeding to your doctor, as these might indicate your birth control is not as effective.
This medication can also affect the results of certain laboratory tests, including those for blood clotting and thyroid function. Ensure that all your healthcare providers and lab technicians are aware that you are taking this medication.
