Fluticasone is used to control and prevent symptoms (such as wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma. It works by reducing swelling (inflammation) of the airways in the lungs to make breathing easier. Controlling symptoms of asthma helps you maintain your normal activities and decreases time lost from work or school. Fluticasone belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. This medication must be used regularly to be effective. It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden asthma attacks. If an asthma attack occurs, use your quick-relief inhaler (such as albuterol, also called salbutamol in some countries) as prescribed.

Flovent Diskus FAQs
What is the Flovent Diskus used for?

Flovent Diskus is used for the maintenance treatment of asthma. It helps to prevent asthma attacks by reducing inflammation in the airways, making it easier to breathe. It is not intended for the relief of acute bronchospasm or asthma attacks.

As of the latest available information, there is no indication that Flovent Diskus is being discontinued. It is always advisable to check with a healthcare provider or pharmacist for the most current information regarding medication availability.

Flovent Diskus and Flovent HFA inhaler both deliver the medication fluticasone propionate, but they differ in their delivery mechanisms. Flovent Diskus is a dry powder inhaler, which requires the patient to inhale the medication in powder form. It is breath-activated, meaning the patient must take a deep, fast breath to release the medication. On the other hand, Flovent HFA is a metered-dose inhaler that delivers the medication in aerosol form. It requires coordination between pressing the inhaler and inhaling the medication. Both are used for the maintenance treatment of asthma, but the choice between them may depend on patient preference and ability to use the device correctly.

Flovent is an inhaled corticosteroid that helps reduce inflammation in the airways. By decreasing inflammation, it can help alleviate coughing associated with asthma or other respiratory conditions. It is important to note that Flovent is not a rescue inhaler and is used for long-term management rather than immediate relief of symptoms.

A Diskus and an inhaler are both devices used to deliver medication to the lungs, but they differ in design and usage. A Diskus is a type of dry powder inhaler that contains medication in a powdered form. It is breath-activated, meaning the user inhales the medication by taking a deep breath through the device. On the other hand, a metered-dose inhaler (MDI) is a pressurized device that delivers medication in the form of an aerosol spray. The user must coordinate pressing the inhaler and inhaling the medication simultaneously. In summary, the main differences lie in the form of medication delivery (powder vs. aerosol) and the method of activation (breath-activated vs. manual actuation).
