Warnings
Antidepressant medications are commonly prescribed for conditions such as depression and various mental or mood disorders. These drugs can offer significant benefits, including the reduction of suicidal thoughts and attempts. However, research indicates that a small percentage of individuals, particularly those under the age of 25, may experience a deterioration in their depression, other mental or mood symptoms, or may develop suicidal thoughts or attempts when starting these medications.
It is crucial to have a detailed discussion with a healthcare provider about the potential risks and advantages of using antidepressants, especially for individuals under 25, regardless of whether the treatment is for a mental or mood disorder.
- Immediately contact your doctor if you observe any worsening of depression or other psychiatric conditions.
- Report any unusual changes in behavior, such as suicidal thoughts or attempts, or other mental/mood alterations (including new or worsening anxiety, panic attacks, sleep disturbances, irritability, feelings of hostility or anger, impulsivity, severe restlessness, or very rapid speech).
- Pay particular attention to these symptoms when initiating a new antidepressant or adjusting the dosage.
Vigilant monitoring is vital to ensure safe and effective treatment.
Auvelity Side Effects
When taking this medication, you might experience mild side effects such as dry mouth, sore throat, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, ringing in the ears, headache, decreased appetite, weight loss, constipation, trouble sleeping, increased sweating, or changes in sexual function. These are generally not serious, but if they persist or worsen, it’s a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional.
It's important to monitor your blood pressure as this medication can increase it. If you notice elevated readings, inform your healthcare provider. Pay attention to any serious side effects that may arise, including a fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat, mood or mental changes like anxiety or confusion, and unusual behavior or memory loss. These require prompt medical attention.
In rare instances, very serious side effects may occur. Discontinue the medication and seek immediate medical help if you experience seizures, eye pain or swelling, redness, or vision changes such as seeing rainbows around lights at night or blurred vision. Though extremely rare, an allergic reaction can happen. Symptoms may include rash, itching or swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, and difficulty breathing, necessitating urgent medical care.
While these are not all possible side effects, they cover the most likely occurrences. If you encounter any other unusual symptoms, reaching out to a healthcare professional is advised.
Interactions
While using this medication, it's important to be aware of potential interactions with other drugs. Pimozide and thioridazine are among the products that may interact. Additionally, combining this medication with MAO inhibitors can lead to dangerous, possibly life-threatening, interactions. Avoid using MAO inhibitors like isocarboxazid, linezolid, metaxalone, methylene blue, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, safinamide, selegiline, and tranylcypromine during treatment. It's also advised to not take most MAO inhibitors for two weeks before and after using this medication. Consult your doctor for guidance on when to start or stop this medication.
This drug contains dextromethorphan and bupropion. Do not use other products containing these ingredients unless your doctor advises otherwise. Additionally, this medication may affect the results of certain lab tests, including Parkinson's disease brain scans and urine tests for amphetamines. Inform your healthcare providers and lab personnel that you are using this medication to prevent potential misinterpretations of lab results.

Does Auvelity give you energy?
Auvelity, a medication used for the treatment of major depressive disorder, may have varying effects on energy levels. Some patients might experience an increase in energy as their depressive symptoms improve, while others may not notice a significant change. It's important for patients to discuss any changes in energy levels with their healthcare provider to ensure the medication is working effectively and to address any concerns.
Does Auvelity treat anxiety?
Auvelity is primarily approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. While it is not specifically approved for treating anxiety disorders, some patients with depression may experience improvements in anxiety symptoms as their depression is treated. However, it is important for patients to consult with their healthcare provider to determine the most appropriate treatment for their specific condition.
Is Auvelity better than Zoloft?
The effectiveness of Auvelity compared to Zoloft can vary depending on the individual and their specific condition. Auvelity is a newer medication that combines dextromethorphan and bupropion, while Zoloft is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Each medication works differently in the brain and may have different side effects and interactions. It is important for a healthcare provider to evaluate the patient's medical history, symptoms, and response to previous treatments to determine which medication might be more suitable. Consulting with a healthcare professional is essential for making an informed decision.
