This medication is used by men who do not make enough of a natural substance called testosterone (hypogonadism). Testosterone belongs to a class of drugs known as androgens. Testosterone helps the body to develop and maintain the male sexual characteristics (masculinity), such as a deep voice and body hair. It also helps to maintain muscle and prevent bone loss, and is necessary for natural sexual ability/desire. This drug should not be used by women.

Warnings

This medication can raise your blood pressure, which can increase your risk of having a heart attack or stroke. Your risk may be higher if you have a medical history of high blood pressure, heart disease, or stroke. Check your blood pressure regularly and tell your doctor if the results are high. Your doctor will monitor your blood pressure regularly during treatment with this medication. Medications may be started or adjusted to control your blood pressure.

Side Effects

Headache, changes in sexual interest, oily skin, hair loss, and acne may occur. Pain, bruising, or bleeding at the injection site may also occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: trouble urinating, increased urination (especially at night), mental/mood changes (such as anxiety, depression, hostility), interrupted breathing during sleep, daytime drowsiness, signs of liver problems (such as nausea/vomiting that doesn't stop, loss of appetite, stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine), swelling hands/ankles/feet, breast pain/enlargement, frequent erections, fast/irregular heartbeat. Get medical help right away if you have any very serious side effects, including: shortness of breath/rapid breathing, chest/jaw/left arm pain, unusual sweating, confusion, sudden dizziness/fainting, pain/swelling/warmth in the groin/calf, sudden/severe headaches, trouble speaking, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes. Rarely, males may have a painful or prolonged erection lasting 4 or more hours. If this occurs, stop using this drug and get medical help right away, or permanent problems could occur. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing. Interactions

Some products that may interact with this drug are: "blood thinners" (such as warfarin). This medication may interfere with certain lab tests (such as thyroid tests), possibly causing false test results. Make sure lab personnel and all your doctors know you use this drug.
