This medication is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This product contains 2 medications, fosinopril and hydrochlorothiazide. Fosinopril belongs to a class of drugs known as ACE inhibitors. It works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. Hydrochlorothiazide is a "water pill" (diuretic) and causes your body to get rid of extra salt and water. This effect may increase the amount of urine you make when you first start the medication. It also helps to relax the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily.

Fosinopril-hydrochlorothiazide FAQs
Is fosinopril hard on the kidneys?

Fosinopril, like other ACE inhibitors, can affect kidney function. It may cause changes in kidney function, especially in individuals with pre-existing kidney conditions or those who are dehydrated. Regular monitoring of kidney function through blood tests is recommended for patients taking fosinopril to ensure that it is not adversely affecting the kidneys. It is important for patients to follow their healthcare provider's advice and report any unusual symptoms.

A safer alternative to hydrochlorothiazide would depend on the specific medical condition being treated and the patient's individual health profile. For hypertension, alternatives might include other classes of antihypertensive medications such as ACE inhibitors, ARBs, or calcium channel blockers. For edema, other diuretics like spironolactone or furosemide might be considered. It is important for the patient to consult with their healthcare provider to determine the most appropriate and safe alternative based on their specific needs and medical history.

The most common side effect of hydrochlorothiazide is increased urination. This diuretic effect is expected as the medication works to remove excess fluid from the body.

Fosinopril hydrochlorothiazide is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It combines an ACE inhibitor, fosinopril, with a diuretic, hydrochlorothiazide, to help relax blood vessels and remove excess fluid, thereby lowering blood pressure.

Hydrochlorothiazide can interact with certain vitamins. It is generally advised to be cautious with calcium and vitamin D supplements, as hydrochlorothiazide can increase calcium levels in the blood. Additionally, potassium levels can be affected, so potassium supplements should be monitored closely. It is important for individuals to consult with their healthcare provider before starting any new vitamin or supplement while taking hydrochlorothiazide.
