Warnings
Celecoxib, a type of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), carries a small risk of increasing the likelihood of a heart attack or stroke. This risk can arise at any point during treatment but is more pronounced with prolonged use. Those particularly at risk include older individuals or those with pre-existing heart conditions or risk factors such as smoking, family history of heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes. It is crucial to avoid using this medication immediately before or after undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.
Additionally, celecoxib may infrequently cause severe, sometimes fatal, gastrointestinal bleeding, which can occur without prior symptoms. The likelihood of this adverse effect increases with age.
If you experience any of the following uncommon but serious symptoms, discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention: persistent stomach or abdominal pain, black or tarry stools, vomit resembling coffee grounds, pain in the chest, jaw, or left arm, difficulty breathing, unusual sweating, confusion, weakness on one side of the body, difficulty speaking, or sudden changes in vision.
Consult your healthcare provider or pharmacist to thoroughly discuss the potential benefits and risks associated with this medication.
Elyxyb Side Effects
While taking this medication, some individuals may experience changes in their sense of taste. If this persists or worsens, it is important to inform your healthcare provider. Regular monitoring of blood pressure is advisable, as the drug may cause an increase. If elevated readings occur, consult your healthcare provider.
There are some serious side effects to be aware of. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience pain, swelling, or warmth in the groin or calf, changes in urine output, difficulty swallowing, or symptoms of heart failure like swollen ankles or unusual tiredness. Another rare but severe risk is liver damage. If you notice persistent nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or dark urine, seek medical attention promptly.
A very serious allergic reaction is uncommon but requires urgent medical care if you experience symptoms such as fever, swollen lymph nodes, rash, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing. While these are not all possible side effects, they highlight the importance of discussing any new or unusual symptoms with your healthcare provider.
