Symbyax is a combination medication containing olanzapine and fluoxetine. It is prescribed for treating depressive episodes associated with bipolar 1 disorder in both adults and children aged 10 years and older, as well as for adults with depression that has not improved with other treatments. Olanzapine, an atypical antipsychotic, and fluoxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), work together to help restore the balance of neurotransmitters like serotonin in the brain, improving mood. Symbyax is available in capsule form and is taken once daily. Common side effects may include drowsiness, weight gain, and dry mouth.
