Methscopolamine Bromide Side Effects
You might experience some common side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, blurred vision, dry eyes, dry mouth, constipation, or abdominal bloating. These are usually mild and can be managed at home. For dry mouth, try sugarless hard candy, ice chips, sugarless gum, water, or a saliva substitute. If dry eyes bother you, artificial tears or other eye lubricants can help. To prevent constipation, focus on eating fiber-rich foods, drinking plenty of water, and staying active. A suitable laxative, recommended by your pharmacist, might also be necessary.
While most people do not experience serious side effects, it's important to be aware of them. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you notice decreased sweating, dry and flushed skin, changes in heartbeat, or mood alterations such as confusion or agitation. Also, watch for difficulty urinating or a decrease in sexual ability.
In rare instances, very serious side effects may occur, such as eye pain, swelling, redness, or changes in vision, including seeing rainbows around lights at night. If these occur, seek medical attention immediately. Though a severe allergic reaction is rare, it requires urgent care. Look out for symptoms like rash, swelling of the face or throat, severe dizziness, or breathing difficulties. If you experience any side effects not listed here, consult your healthcare provider.
Interactions
Certain medications and substances may interact with this drug. These include potassium tablets or capsules and medications affected by slower digestive movement, like pramlintide. Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are using other substances that can cause drowsiness, such as alcohol, marijuana (cannabis), antihistamines (e.g., cetirizine, diphenhydramine), sleep or anxiety medications (e.g., alprazolam, diazepam, zolpidem), muscle relaxants, and opioid pain relievers (e.g., codeine).
Check all your medications, including those for allergies or cold symptoms and weight loss products, for ingredients that might cause drowsiness or a rapid heartbeat. Consult your pharmacist for guidance on safe use. Additionally, this drug may affect certain laboratory tests, such as gastric secretion tests, leading to inaccurate results. Ensure that all laboratory staff and your healthcare providers are aware that you are taking this medication.
